Best Growers Benelux is a cooperative established in 1999 by greenhouse-product growers, representing more than 275 ha of greenhouses among them. The grower companies have national coverage. The most important products are peppers, tomatoes, cucumbers and eggplant. BGB has a market share of 10% in the Dutch supply of these items.
The primary goal for the cooperative is improving returns for the individual grower companies, and to bring the best and most diverse possible product range to market. Each year, projects are formulated to contribute to these goals. In addition to general support for activities and projects for growers, investments are also made, provided they contribute to positive returns for the cooperative and its members.
The BGB growers strive for the highest possible degree of organic production by using organic pesticides and fertilisers. Mandatory reporting of pesticide use, gas and energy has led to a programme being developed in conjunction with Groeinet. This programme allows daily online overviews of EUREPGAP- and grower report data for BGB.
Since 2000, BGB has been a Europe GMO-recognised association, making it eligible to request EG subsidies.
